WORKED CCTV QUOTE CHECK

An eight-camera system that is 4.44 TB short

The recorder has enough channels, incoming bandwidth and PoE capacity. The missed requirement is storage for 30 days of continuous recording.

Example inputs

Cameras8
Average bitrate4 Mbps each
Recording24 hr/day for 30 days
Storage headroom20%
Installed usable storage8 TB
Maximum camera power12 W each
STORAGE MATH

32 Mbps becomes 12.44 TB

  1. Total bitrate: 8 cameras × 4 Mbps = 32 Mbps.
  2. Base recording estimate: 32 Mbps × 10.8 GB/day per Mbps × 30 days = 10,368 GB, or 10.37 TB.
  3. Add 20% headroom: 10.37 TB × 1.20 = 12.44 TB.
  4. Compare with the recorder: 12.44 TB required − 8 TB available = 4.44 TB short.

What this example does not prove

This is a disclosed planning example, not a field measurement or compatibility guarantee. Average bitrate changes with codec, scene activity, frame rate, image quality and camera settings. Motion recording can reduce storage but varies by site. Confirm usable capacity after RAID and reserves, supported drive models, camera compatibility, maximum stream bitrate, PoE class and switch topology against manufacturer documentation before promising retention.
